Introduction
At Scientific Sanitation Solutions Ltd (SSS), we hold a firm commitment to environmental sustainability. Our goal is clear and ambitious: to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030 at the latest. This Carbon Reduction Plan reflects our dedication to minimising our environmental impact, aligning with the United Kingdom’s climate goals, and playing our part in securing a sustainable and green future.
Baseline Emissions Assessment
In 2023, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of our carbon emissions. This included a thorough evaluation of emissions within Scope 1, Scope 2, and all pertinent Scope 3 categories.

In this current reporting year, we have assessed our emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2, and the pertinent Scope 3 categories. Our report is based on projections derived from monthly trends up until the end of March 2024.

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
1. Implementation of a Work-From-Home Policy: We have enabled our staff to work from home where applicable, reducing the need for commuting and its associated emissions.
2. Procurement of Renewable Energy: We have taken steps to source renewable energy from sustainable sources, powering our operations in an eco-friendly manner.
3. Energy-Efficient Laptops: Our staff now use energy-efficient laptops, reducing energy consumption.
4. LED Lighting: In our UK distribution centre, we’ve switched to LED lighting for energy efficiency.
5. Awareness and Engagement: We have fostered environmental awareness across our workforce, conducting bi-annual engagement sessions on carbon literacy.
6. Reduced Business Travel: We are promoting video conference communication to minimise business travel.
Planned Carbon Reduction Initiatives
1. Hybrid and Electric Vehicles: We plan to implement hybrid and electric vehicles for key personnel who need to travel, reducing our reliance on conventional vehicles.
2. Eco-Friendly UK Factory: We are in the process of establishing a UK factory with energy-efficient features in the Liverpool area. This facility will produce products that aim to achieve carbon-negative status within the next seven years.
3. Enhanced Emissions Data: We are actively working to improve data on emissions related to carbon reduction initiatives.
4. Gas Consumption Reduction: In our plans for new buildings, we will prioritise sustainable choices to reduce gas consumption.
5. Renewable Energy Adoption: We are collaborating with landowners at non-owned sites to measure electricity consumption and fuel mixes, transitioning to 100% renewable energy.
6. Printing Reduction: We’ve set an ambitious target of reducing printer use by 50% across our office portfolio.
7. Supply Chain Engagement: We aim to work closely with suppliers to understand their emissions, educate them on carbon reduction, and encourage them to set their carbon reduction targets.
8. Sustainable Travel Policy: We are developing a sustainable travel policy that will encourage reduced air, rail, and road travel through effective measurement.
Declaration and Sign Off
This Carbon Reduction Plan is in strict compliance with PPN 06/21 and the associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded in adherence to the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and Reporting Standard. We have utilized the most relevant emissions factors sourced from government and official environmental bodies and suppliers.
Our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are reported in accordance with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) requirements, while the necessary subset of Scope 3 emissions has been reported following the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.
